Occupational First Aid Level 1
Students will learn the Priority Action Approach to provide life saving first aid, enabling you to keep your co-worker or yourself alive until help arrives. Skills include primary survey, management of obstructed airway, management of distressed or absent breathing, one person CPR, shock and bleeding management, as well as how to treat minor wounds. No previous first aid training is required. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a three-year certificate from WCB. The minimum age limit is 16 years old. (Please provide picture ID) Manuals are included in course fee.
Transportation Endorsement
A Transportation Endorsement ticket is required to go along with a OFA Level 1 first Aid in any Class “A” hazard job that is more than 20 minutes surface travel from a hospital, when the crew size is 2-10 workers.
Skills taught during this course are a review of Level 1 first aid, hard collar application, and spinal immobilization on a backboard and helicopter transportation of injured workers. Time will be allowed for practice in dealing with various transportation scenarios.
OFA Level 1 First Aid is a pre-requisite for this course.
Occupational First Aid Level 3
OFA Level 3 courses are offered to qualify candidates for certification by the Workers Compensation Board as First Aid Attendants in Industry. Northland First Aid provides instruction in both the theory and practice of first aid.
Fees include textbooks, exam and seventy hours compulsory class time in preparation for examination. Students must be prepared for intensive reading and homework study.
Candidates should have a minimum grade 10 reading level.
Please pick up textbooks two weeks prior to the first class as there is extensive pre-reading required before classes begin.
Occupational First Aid Level 3 Recert
This 40 hour course is designed for students who need to rectify their OFA Level 3. Students will have an opportunity to review core concepts and be brought up to date with any protocol changes. Upon successful completion of a written and practical examination, students will receive a WorkSafeBC (WCB) OFA Level 3 certificate valid for three years.
Fees include textbooks, exam and seventy hours compulsory class time in preparation for examination. Please pick up textbooks two weeks prior to the first class as there is extensive pre-reading required before classes begin.
